Tata Power breached data put on sale by Hive Ransomware group

Tata Power is once again making headlines as it bagged a 150 MW solar project in Maharashtra. While this news is a relief for the organization that was under a cyber-attack a few days back. However, as per sources, the hacker group has released the stolen data for sale on multiple darkweb and other forums. The research team of the Latest Hacking Updates had earlier revealed that the organization was targeted by Hive ransomware group. The same was confirmed by the ransomware group itself while posting the data for sale. This group is widely known for targeting energy sectors, healthcare organizations, charities, and other critical business sectors across the world.

Hive ransomware group has been in action since last year and continuously targets Indian companies. As per the researchers, the Hive ransomware group has become top three ransomware threats within a year. Spokespersons from Tata Power have denied commenting on this matter at this moment considering the seriousness of the issue.

As per the sources available, major data of Tata power including bank accounts and balance sheets, Aadhar numbers, PAN numbers, salary slips, address details, contact numbers, engineering designs, financial and banking details, etc. were released by the Hive ransomware group.

It is believed that Tata Power was negotiating with the Hive group for more than a week to recover the stolen data. However, neither party came to an agreement a result of which the group started posting the data on the darkweb.

Tata Power confirmed on Friday, 14th October 22 that they have been hit by a ransomware attack as a result of which some of its IT systems have been impacted and are not functioning properly. The organization has taken primary measures and is trying to restore the servers. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has been continuously sending advisories to all the Indian energy producers and distributors to be vigilant against this ransomware.
