Delhi Police collaborates with Truecaller to combat cyber fraud
Delhi Police has partnered with Truecaller, a caller identity verification platform, to fight cyber fraud and impersonation. The collaboration will enable all official contact numbers presented by Delhi Police to receive a special green badge and blue tick on Truecaller’s platform, allowing users of Truecaller to identify Delhi Police officials. This move is expected to help combat cyber fraud and create awareness about digital safety.
Sanjay Singh, special commissioner of licensing and legal division, media cell, Delhi Police, stated that the collaboration was initiated in light of recent impersonation cases. He added that the new verification badge for police officials on Truecaller would help users differentiate between actual officials and criminals impersonating the police. The collaboration would also aid in training Delhi Police officers against cybercrime.

Pragya Misra, director of public affairs at Truecaller, stated that through this partnership, Truecaller aims to tackle impersonation. She further explained that when a Delhi Police representative calls a citizen, the green badge or blue tick on the caller ID would indicate that the call is from a police officer, thus avoiding potential fraud.
The partnership will also enable Delhi Police to provide Truecaller with numbers of criminals who have harassment, scam, or similar complaints against them, enabling the caller ID verification platform to warn its users against possible scam or harassment.
